Weekly Chronicle aims to provide clear, accurate and relevant news coverage. This policy sets out the standards guiding our editorial work.
Editorial Responsibility
Mason Reid Varlow, Editor-in-Chief, is responsible for Weekly Chronicle’s editorial direction, standards and publishing decisions.
Accuracy and Sources
Our standard is to check factual claims against reliable evidence, prioritising official documents, direct statements and primary sources where available.
When coverage relies on reporting by another news organisation, that reporting should be clearly attributed. Rewriting material does not turn it into original reporting.
Unconfirmed information, allegations and disputed claims should be identified as such. Headlines should accurately reflect the article and avoid presenting speculation as established fact.
Fairness and Context
We aim to represent relevant facts and viewpoints fairly, provide context and avoid misleading readers through omissions or selective quotations.
Where serious allegations concern an identifiable person or organisation, our standard is to seek and fairly represent their response where reasonably possible. If a response is unavailable, this should be made clear.
News, Opinion and Commercial Content
Opinion and commentary should be clearly distinguished from factual news reporting.
Paid, sponsored and promotional content should be clearly labelled so readers can understand its commercial nature.
Artificial Intelligence
Weekly Chronicle uses AI and automated tools to assist with some content preparation and publication. AI output is not an authoritative source and may contain errors.
The same standards of accuracy, attribution and fairness apply to content prepared with these tools. Our AI Notice explains their use in more detail.
Images and Attribution
Images should be used with an appropriate licence, permission or other valid basis, with required credits retained. Attribution alone does not provide permission to use an image.
Illustrations, archive images and AI-generated visuals should be identified where necessary to avoid misleading readers about what they depict.
Updates and Corrections
Developing stories may be updated as new information becomes available. Publication dates should remain accurate, and substantial updates should be identified.
Substantiated factual errors should be corrected in accordance with our Corrections Policy.
